Ms. Sheena Istre was born and raised in Northwestern Montana. She began singing and playing instruments at the age of 8 and never stopped studying music. In high school Ms. Sheena was a member of 4 different choirs including a highly competitive small ensemble which was by audition only. It was then that Ms. Sheena started tutoring younger children and excelling at competitive Speech and Debate. Istre competed at the national level twice and was the State Champion in Extemporaneous Speaking as well as placing second at the 2002 National Forensics League National Championships in Impromptu Speaking.
In college Ms. Istre chose to study Speech Communication while on full scholarship to sing for Hawaii Pacific Universities first ever International Vocal Ensemble. With HPU, Istre performed in more than 6 countries including prestigious venues like the Dom Cathedral in Salzburg, Austria for Mozart's 250 birthday celebration and at Carnegie Hall in New York during their Morten Lauredson feature. Ms. Sheena continued to tutor in her spare time, working with the local Salvation Army and YMCA after school Programs as well as coaching speech and debate at Aiea High School.
After a series of medical issues Ms. Sheena found yoga as a way to get her body healthy and active again. It had such a profound impact on her that she decided to become a teacher, officially getting her certification as a Hatha Yoga instructor in 2011. Her goal is to enable children to be more focused, keep their flexibility, and give them tools to support a healthy lifestyle.
Today you can find Ms. Sheena all over the island of Maui doing her favorite things: hiking (in Haleakala Crater is the best!), riding her bike, knitting or crocheting, reading, and singing everywhere she goes!
